"In Assens, Ostergade [the highway/mainstreet] has been rebuilt from facade to facade and converted to a 20 km/h, two-way street where pedestrians have the right of way. The new cross-section consists of a 4.5 m wide carriageway edged by 0.6 m wide stone-set bands in each side. These stone bands link the whole street together and are only broken by the squares. On each side of the carriageway there is a 1.8 m wide area which is used, alternately, for parking and street equipment, plus a sidewalk area." Other features include smaller lamp-posts, plantings, bollards, paving and an improved town square with street furniture.
