The Importance of Modeling Ozone Formation Attributable to Rural Interstate Traffic

A presentation made by Davida Schiff of the Health Effects Institute on the impact of vehicle emissions from rural interstates.

The purpose and scope of this presentation are to:

  • Synthesize the current state of knowledge on the impact of vehicle emissions from rural interstates
  • Explore the nexus between rural public health and pollution attributable to roadway traffic that is currently underrepresented in the transportation research
  • Develop a framework for exploring the relationship between policy, rural traffic, traffic emissions modeling, rural air pollution, ambient monitoring and public health.
